Best Autumn Trails to Explore with Your Dog in Raleigh, NC

Raleigh is a hiking lover’s dream because it is on the Piedmont plateau to the west of the Appalachians. Raleigh is known for its stunning state parks, and the city itself has a lot of beautiful greenways. Almost all of the local trails welcome dogs, and many of them connect to make a web that owners and their four-legged friends can explore together. Here are three of the best dog-friendly trails in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Chestnut Oak Loop Trail

The Chestnut Oak Loop is the longest trail in Hemlock Bluffs Nature Preserve, stretching for 1.2 miles in total. You can easily make a five-mile loop by linking up with the park’s other trails. You can enjoy views of the rare Piedmont hemlock, which is a relic of the Ice Age, from the many scenic overlooks and boardwalks along these beautiful trails.

Lake Johnson Loop Trail

The Lake Johnson Loop Trail, which spans over four miles, completely encircles the lake that shares the park’s name. The trail can be hiked in either a complete loop or in separate West Loop and East Loop segments with your dog. Parts of the boardwalk that skirt the lake are among the most picturesque, but you’ll also pass through forests and come across picnic tables.

Winding its way through a variety of landscapes, it features bridges, boardwalks, and a picturesque creek. It connects a number of parks and dog friendly trails in Raleigh, North Carolina.
