NC Animal Rescues to Receive Grants

PEDIGREE Foundation is pleased to award grants totaling more than $600,000 to 325 pet welfare agencies to help further their mission of helping dogs in need find loving homes.

“PEDIGREE Foundation is dedicated to helping adoptable dogs find loving homes, and one way to further this mission is by working with shelters and organizations that are equally as passionate about this cause,” said Bo Segers, President of PEDIGREE Foundation Board of Directors. “Through this year’s grants we’re supporting 325 shelters and rescue organizations in their efforts to find each dog a forever home.”

Since 2008, PEDIGREE Foundation has awarded 4,740 grants worth more than $6.1 million to support the people and organizations that help dogs in need. This year’s grant recipients include:

Innovation Grants – Ranging from $10,000 – $25,000:

  • Arizona Humane Society (Phoenix, AZ) – $20,000 to support its Homeward Bound Program, an adoption expedition program that will place shelter dogs who are in the final stages of recovery from pre-approved medical and behavior issues up for adoption.
  • Best Friends Animal Society (Kanab, UT) –$20,000 to support its Big Dog Project, a pilot program to get more big dogs adopted through training, reduced adoption fees and addressing community dogs.
  • Charlie’s Angels Animal Rescue (Fletcher, NC) – $10,000 to provide medical care and transportation for dogs who are rescued from high-kill shelters to be part of its local Aloft Hotel’s Adoption Program, a unique partnership that features rescue dog greeters at the hotel.
  • Friends of the Animals BR, Inc. (Baton Rouge, LA) – $25,000 to provide heartworm medical care and treatment to infected dogs to get them to be adoptable.
  • Humane Society of Southern Arizona (Tucson, AZ) – $20,000 to support the expansion of its basic dental care program, allowing them to increase the adoptability of dogs by reducing the initial vet care costs for potential adopters.
  • Kentucky Humane Society (Louisville, KY) – $15,000 to support its Saving Kentucky’s Shelter Dogs Project, a behavior training program and transport program to rural county shelters to get more dogs adoptable.
  • Wisconsin Humane Society (Milwaukee, WI) – $25,000 for its Benchwarmer program that promotes dogs who have been in its shelter for more than 14 days and to reduce their adoption fees.

Program Development Grants – $10,000:

  • Agape Animal Rescue (Nashville, TN) – To support the care and adoption of puppies under the age of six months from Metro Animal Control.
  • Allegany County Society of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Wellsville, NY) – To build an indoor arena allowing for a more comfortable environment for potential adopters to get more acquainted with a dog.
  • Animal Shelter of Wood River Valley (Hailey, ID) – To support shelter expansion and renovation.
  • Brother Wolf Animal Rescue (Asheville, NC) – To provide additional outbound transports to Northern shelters.
  • Faithful Friends Inc. (Wilmington, DE) – To expand its Behavior Modification program.
  • Forte Animal Rescue (Marina Del Rey, CA) – To provide service canine companions for veterans by rescuing dogs at high-kill shelters and training them for this service.
  • Humane Society of Johnson County (Franklin, IN) – To increase indoor and outdoor kennel space.
  • Humane Society for SeattleKing County (Bellevue, WA) – To support its Life-Saver Rescue Transfer program.
  • Kansas City Pet Program (Kansas City, MO) – To support a sustainable Canine Training & Behavior program for harder-to-place, larger breed dogs.
  • Muttville (San Francisco, CA) – To support its Seniors for Seniors program, improving the lives of senior dogs and bringing them together with senior citizens.
  • Open Door Animal Sanctuary (House Springs, MO) – To support its Seniors for Seniors Dog Adoption program.
  • Paws Chicago (Chicago, IL) – To expand and renovate its existing Medical Center.
  • Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society (Philadelphia, PA) – To support enhancements to its dog foster program, growing a pool of foster parents.
  • San Antonio Pets Alive, Inc. (San Antonio, TX) – To provide medical treatment to dogs with heartworm.
  • Society for the Improvement of Conditions for Stray Animals (Kettering, OH) – To support its Super Dog Project, a behavior training program for high-energy and behaviorally-challenged dogs.
  • Sweet Paws Rescue, Inc. (Essex, MA) – To build its own Isolation Facility.
  • Yavapai Humane Society (Prescott, AZ) – To support its Heart to Heart program which includes enrichment, transfer and medical needs.

Operation Grants – $1,000:

  • These unrestricted awards will be given to 301 animal shelters and rescue organizations across the country to use for their greatest need.
